FIELD RECORDING
WORLD WAR II WINGS
Hello Folks! 🤘
This is a small recap of my Field Recording adventures with the Aerodrome Ailes Anciennes de Lorraine (meaning “Old Lorraine Wings” in French)! 🎤
I had an absolute blast recording a 🇩🇪 Klemm 35 (1935 Luftwaffe) with my recorded MixPre-3 II and Sennheiser MKH8040's coupled with my Røde NTG-4 and LOM Geofon. I had also the chance to record a bit of a 🇺🇸 PT26 (1940's US Air Forces) well as a Boeing Stearman Model 75, but I focused mainly on the Klemm for it’s rarity (only 3 flying in Europe).
This was quite a challenge as I had never flown abord such warbirds beforehand. It was also tricky to record and film at the same time, and I almost lost my phone in the sky due to the strong wind gusts! 🌪️
AIR LEGEND WARBIRDS
Hello Folks! 🤘
This is another of my 2024 Warbirds adventures with this time up to 390 min of Legendary Warbirds pass-bys. Jets, Propeller Planes of all sizes and armies, from the most iconic war eras in our modern history with perfect weather!😎
For three days straight not far from the planes track, I managed to record with my trusty MixPre-3 II, MKH8040’s and NTG4 some P-38 Lightning, P40 Mustang, P51D Mustang, Corsairs, Spitfire, DC3, Vampire DH 100, Mig-15, F-86 Sabre, T-6, A400M, and so many other aircrafts pass bys!
I also learned a dire lesson: never forget to bring hats and suncream to avoid turning into a boiled crawfish 🦞 after the sound hunt is over! 😅
Warbirds have always been for me one of the most fascinating peaces of aeronautics there can be. Some of them like the T6, P-40, Corsairs and Spitfires have almost an animal predator sounding traits! True gems for Sound Designers such as myself! 🎧
VOSGES MOUNTAIN SUMMITS
📍Hautes Vosges, FRANCE - Oct / December 2024
Hello Folks! 🤘
After the warbirds season, it’s time for a little change and for that I decided to merge both my passion for sound and the love I have nature and hiking. 🏔️
The goal for this four-part project was to capture the most magical soundscapes in 96Khz-24Bits from my “Heimat” Vosgian Mountains and make it available for the world.
For that, I carry up to 15kg of gears in my Hiking Bagpack and roam the mountains off-track to avoid as much as possible human interactions that could ruin great recordings.
For that these journeys, I recorded with my MixPre-3 II & Zoom F3 and used my MKH840’s in ORTF together with a set of Basic Ucho set in A-B either facing the same direction at different distances or in opposite direction to capture as much of how it feels to be standing there! Later on, I blend these mics together to taste in 96Khz-24 Bits stereo. 🎙️
All this gear is packed in a Forclaz Trekk bagpack which was I’m sure, designed for Field Recordists as I have all the space I need to carry both food, water and gear!
As a Vosgian born and raised, I love nature and hiking in big landscapes surrounded by mountains. Autumn offers the most eerie lights and colours here. It’s also a season of strong winds and bad weather so I always keep an eye the weather forecast beforehand! 🌦️
It is also an opportunity to make people realise that the Vosges Mountains are more than meets the eye, and that if you pay attention to the sound of nature surrounding you, you will find yourself in a magical world that can only be found in J.R.R Tolkien books!
Nature is very important here and I wanted to do my part in preserving its beautiful soundscapes!
Please enjoy these smalls recaps for “Part I & II” of my adventures to Vosges Mountain Summits! 🎧
